Throughout our lifetime\, we may experience more than 40 different types of loss\, from the death of a loved one to relationship breakdowns\, moving away from one’s community\, and more. Unfortunately\, we often rely on the wrong tool—our brains—when navigating grief. \nThis gathering equips participants with grounding tools and techniques to release unhelpful cognitive thoughts\, reconnect with their emotions\, and use their hearts to heal from loss. Through various activities\, the Ember of Hope team supports participants in working through a broad spectrum of grief and loss experiences. \nLearning outcomes\nParticipants will: \n\nGain an understanding of how they have learned and currently cope with grief.\nDevelop a step-by-step process to support their healing.\n\nDuration: 3 days \nMax. Participants: 20 seats \nParticipation: Open to individuals aged 16+

SUMMARY:Postponed due to unforeseen circumstances Indigenous Trauma-Informed Care: November 25-27\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:What is trauma\, and how do humans react to it? Informed by a Two-Eyed Seeing approach\, Janine and Richard help participants explore how our minds\, hearts\, and bodies cope with trauma and adversity. This includes an overview of the historical context for Indigenous peoples’ trauma and how its impacts play out today. \nTwo-Eyed Seeing is an approach where individuals come together to view the world with an Indigenous lens through one eye and a Western lens through the other. By combining the strengths of each perspective\, our inquiries and solutions can draw from both worldviews. This gathering fosters a supportive environment\, encouraging participants to be gentle and kind with one another as we all navigate different levels of trauma and adversity. \nFor non-Indigenous participants or groups\, Ember of Hope will tailor this gathering to include a lens of historical colonization and reconciliation. \nLearning outcomes\nParticipants will: \n\nGain a deeper understanding of what trauma is and how it plays out in our lives.\n\nLearn about Western pathology and how it influences trauma responses.\n\n\nUnderstand the connection between the body and brain.\nRecognize how survival responses influence each person’s unique way of life and relationships.\n\nBenefits\nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will: \n\nExperience support for trauma and adversity through a holistic paradigm.\nReceive validation and affirmation of Indigenous knowledges and life experiences.\nHave safe opportunities for group discussion.\n\nDuration: 3 days \nMax. Participation: 20 seats \nParticipation: Open to individuals aged 16 and up.
